Program Overview

The James Webb Early Release Program for Resolved Stellar Populations is a 27.5 hour program that is aqcuiring NIRCam and NIRISS imaging for three targets in the Local Group: globular cluster M92, ultra-faint dwarf galaxy Draco II, and star-forming dwarf galaxy WLM. Observations are scheduled for July and August 2022. Our first papers and data release are scheduled for Fall 2022.

Our ERS program will establish JWST as the premier facility for the study of resolved stellar populations. We are developing specialized NIRCam and NIRISS modules for the widely used crowded field photometry package DOLPHOT. We will release examples of how DOLPHOT can be used to reduce and analyze our ERS data. Our observations will be among the deepest infrared data ever acquired in the local Universe and they will showcase a wide range of science including determining precise ages for the oldeset objects in the Universe, measuring galaxy star formation and orbital histories, and investigating star formation and stellar evolution at extremely low-metallicities.
